[ə'tɔmɪk 'enədʒɪ kə'mɪʃn], Abkürzung AEC ['eɪiː'siː], auch USAEC ['juːes'eɪiː'siː], durch den »Atomic Energy Act« von 1946 von der Regierung der USA eingesetzte Einrichtung für Planung, Überwachung und Finanzierung aller kerntechnischen Vorhaben in den USA. Sie war mit hoheitlichen Rechten in Gesetzgebung, Rechtsprechung und Verwaltung ausgestattet und unter die Aufsicht eines Kongressausschusses gestellt. Mit Gesetz vom 11. 10. 1974 (in Kraft seit 19. 1. 1975) wurde eine Reorganisation vorgenommen; anstelle der AEC wurden zwei neue Organisationen geschaffen: die ERDA (Energy Research and Development Administration) und die NRC (Nuclear Regulatory Commission).
